Environmental not only focuses on reducing green house gas emissions, but also focuses on physical risk. This is especially important for businesses that are drawing from natural resources of the world or has a large exposure to physical assets.

We will be focusing more on the food and beverage industry and hence studying the effects of weather on crop yield, livestocks and shipping.

Redefining ESG

We don't define ESG as "doing good" or lowering the company's carbon emissions but rather on how weather or regulatory factors will impact the company's bottom line.

ESG risk is long-term and abstract for businesses. Our job here is to visualize the risk for businesses

Governance

Governance refers to how the company runs, it spreads out to both the financial and non-financial components of the business. Key to governance is having established process and systems as well as ensuring that the company is well diversified from any one source of risk.

Overall Material Risk Assessment Scoring

Our solution aims to give both in-depth risk materiality assessment and the overall materiality of these risk to the business.

To calculate the overall material risk assessment scoring, we have adopted similar methodology as Thomson Reuters ESG Scoring model.

Calculation of performance and risk indicators are done by customising flexible, pre-built templates with the metrics that best align to stakeholder priorities.

Specific Risk Score Calculation

Based on 5 by 5 risk matrix model, impact and probability of each risk will be given a score to determine materiality of each risk on the business.

Trend Analysis

Based on historical data of the risk. Based on the current materiality of the risk against the company historical material of the risk, a score will be given.

Basket weightage

To calculate the overall score, each specific risk will be assign a weightage in accordance to the relevance of each risk to the business size, sector and stake holders values. The driver is the number of measures that make up a category in comparison to all indicators used in the scoring. As a result categories that contain multiple issues will have higher weight than lighter categories.

Benchmarking

The company's risk scoring will be benchmarked to their assigned industry, with consideration to their size and revenue.

EASE OF INTEGRATION

Software creation of dashboard can be modelled after accounting system widely used by SMEs. By modelling the software in accordance to the system, it eases data extraction process for both SMEs and Prudential.

CONVENIENCE

SMEs value convenience. The dashboard should include a version where they are able to have a glance at for monitoring.  One example would be integrating the dashboard into a phone app.

MODULAR SCALING

The profile of SMEs varies from one company to another and one industry to another. Depending on the scale and industry of the SMEs, the technical aspects of the dashboard can be scaled to fit their needs
